Rail pass inquiry

My husband and I are traveling to Japan last week of August to first week of Sept. After our conference in Tokyo and Hakune is over, we will be traveling from Hakune to Osaka, Osaka to Hiroshima and back, Osaka to Kyoto, day trip to Nara from Kyoto, overnight to Mt Kyosan and back to Kyotoa and then back to Haneda international airport. The trip starting from Hakune and ending at the airport is Saturday afternoon to next Saturday afternoon (8 days). Is a JR 14 day rail pass worth it or can part of Journey be other than train? Should I be getting a 14 day pass( saves a few yens per the calculator, or just get the 7 day pass and pay the last day separately). Is ordinary pass good enough? will there be room for luggage?
