This are my itinerary and dates are fixed. looking for a side trip that I can explore on my way to the next destination. Any suggestion?

10th Aug Tokyo
11th Aug Tokyo
12th Aug Kawaguchiko
13th Aug Kawaguchiko
14th Aug Nagano
15th Aug Nagano

Between Kawaguchiko and Nagano, Matsumoto and its castle comes to mind.
Between Tokyo and Kawaguchiko I donft have a clear idea. Prior May say Hakone, but thatfs really a separate trip. Not on the way.
Otsuki and Takao are on the way to Kawaguchiko, but Otsuki isnft interesting and Takaosan would be about half a day of hiking.
