Me and girlfriend are going to Japan at end of Sept/start of Oct. We will be going for 16 days/15 nights. I'm still fine tuning our itinerary but below is the current plan. We may do 2 nights in Osaka as shown and fit in a day trip instead. We do want to spend time in countryside/mountains rather than in cities the whole time hence the days in Hakone/Fiji area and Nagano area. I'd appreciate any comments/recommendations/feedback on this,
Day 1 - Arrive in Tokyo
Day 2 - Day in Tokyo
Day 3 - Leave Tokyo in PM. Arrive in Kyoto
Day 4 - Day in Kyoto
Day 5 - Leave Kyoto in PM. Arrive in Miyajima
Day 6 - Miyajima AM. Hiroshima in PM
Day 7 - Arrive in Osaka AM
Day 8 - Day in Osaka
Day 9 - Leave Osaka in PM. Arrive in Odawara
Day 10 - Hakone / Fuji area
Day 11 - Hakone / Fuji area
Day 12 - Nagano area
Day 13 - Nagano area
Day 14 - Nagano to North coast
Day 15 - Train from Toyama to Tokyo
Day 16 - Leave Tokyo

Have you considered doing Osaka - Kanazawa - Nagano - Tokyo and Hakone either as a day trip from Tokyo or Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto at the beginning of your trip?
