Transportation confusion 2023/11/20 21:20
I will be traveling with my daughter in three weeks, we will be in Tokyo only, and for a week, I have looked at all the train options, and the JR pass seems very expensive. We will visit areas like Asakusa, Ueno, Ginza, Akihabara, Odaiba, Roppongi, Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku. Can these all be reached with the Metro, it seems better priced? Or should I get the IC card?

The JR pass is aimed at travelers who are taking many long distance trains during a short time, which is not your case.

For Tokyo, you'll need an IC card. It can be used to pay for metro (subway) and local trains.
You can also buy paper tickets at vending machines, but it is inconvenient.

Everything about IC cards is explained here: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html

The JR pass is not aimed at travelers just visiting Tokyo.

If you cannot buy an IC card (like SUICA and PASMO, due to chip shortage), subway pass is a good option to consider. Itfs available in 24, 48, or 72 hour versions. You can buy as many passes as you wish. Note that subways do not go to the airport, so you may still need to buy individual tickets to go places not covered by subways.
