Help with Kyushu trip planning 2023/11/22 21:31
Hi everyone.

Wefre trying to plan 10 days or so in Kyushu and would be very grateful for advice on destinations or resources (tourism websites, etc).

Wefve been to Kyushu a few times before, so wefve done the major things in many destinations. Ifve also read forum member mfedleyfs great blogposts about Kyushu but have no idea how they found all those off-beaten-track destinations.

Specific things that would be great are:
- onsen destinations other than Kurokawa Beppu or Yufuin
- any pottery-based info/hands on experiences
- any factory/food producer tours
- home stay/farmstay experiences

I see these things from time to time on NHK World travel programs but have no idea how to access them or to uncover them in Kyushu.
Thanks a lot for any help you can give

Day 2:nishitetsu bus 24 hour ticket=900 yen
Day3, 4 :Fukuoka prefecture has Lot to offer. so Buy JR fukuoka wide pass 2 day=3060yen

I haven't been to Kyushu yet, but I'll be visiting next year so I'm also looking forward to reading the answers to your post :)

I did a bit of research, and the website of Miyazaki prefecture tourism association has a list of farmstays: https://www.kanko-miyazaki.jp/farm_stay/index.html

For pottery, from what I saw in Hagi, it's a bit complicated because firing the pieces you make might take months, and they will need to mail them to you overseas once they are ready. I know some shops around Arita/Imari offer hands-on experiences (and ship overseas), but I don't remember which ones as I was only browsing for buying teaware ^^`

Thank you both. The Miyazaki website looks like a promising lead - I will check it out in some detail later.
Any more tips would be very .welcome, and if I find any resources Ifll put them up on this thread.

Kyushu is overflowing with onsen. Aside from the places you mention, there is also Unzen in Nagasaki, Takeo in Saga, Futsukaichi in Fukuoka, and some places on the west side of Mt Aso. You also might like the hot sand baths at Ibusuki in Kagoshima. Some other places you might consider are hot springs in Ureshino (Saga), Kirishima, and Yamaga (Kumamoto).
For ceramics or pottery, Arita & Imari are the first places that come to mind. Not sure about hands on experiences, but there are likely some.
As for tours, you could see the Kirin beer factory near Tachiarai.

Thank you again. More places for us to look at. If anyone has any more ideas, particularly around homestay, or off- the-main-tourism-routes ideas, that would be very welcome.
Thanks again for all the ideas so far.
