Home base for 10 days in Okinawa?

Spending 10 days in Okinawa in January. I�fve read that Naha is great to see for a day, but there are other areas that would make a better home base for our hotel. We will have a rental car and need recommendations on best towns/areas to stay that allow for day trips and sightseeing. Can anyone recommend a good stopping place to use as our Okinawa home base? Bonus points if you can also recommend a hotel. Thank you all - really appreciate any help!

What are you going to do in Okinawa for 10 days in the middle of winter?

Naha is not a bad base to explore central and southern Okinawa Honto, but the 60 minute expressway drive up to northern Okinawa gets tiring, and there are a lot of attractions around northern Okinawa. So, I would recommend selecting at least another base in northern Okinawa for exploring that area of the island. If you have a rental car - which I recommend - then you could also change hotels even more often. There are many nice resort hotels all over the island.

There is much more to see and do in Naha than in just a day. But as mentioned, it is time consuming to get from one end of the island to the other - not very efficient to just base yourself in one place.
