Dear visitor, if you know the answer to this question, please post it. Thank you!

I need advice on transportation 2024/1/25 21:21
I'm scheduled to Japan for 9 days, itinerary as follows:
Day 1 - Osaka Kansai airport to Kanazawa, stay 3 nights;
Day 4 - Kanazawa to Kyoto, stay 3 nights;
Day 7 - Day 9 - Kyoto to Osaka, stay 2 nights.

1. Would a JR West all area pass cover all the places in the itinerary?
2. Should I buy the pass online before I travel, or buy it at the Osaka Kansai airport on arrival? Which one costs more?
3. Should I buy a ICOCA card or a JR West pass for the whole trip?

Many thanks.

Not enough long distance travel to make Amy pass pay off. Just get an IC card and pay separately for the long distance travel.

Do you really need to change hotel from Kyoto to Osaka? Itfs an easy commute.

This one covers your trip, is cheaper than the "JR West All" pass, but it still doesn't pay off.

It's pretty close though, and might be worth it if you do day trips from Kyoto.

When will you travel? On 16th March, Tsuruga-Kanazawa section of Hokuriku Shinkansen will open. The said pass is 17000 yen before 15th March which is valid for three months after you buy it. I can't find any information whether the pass is valid for the new section of Shinkansen, but in a few months it will be clear.

Many thanks to everyone's advice. I guess I'll just buy a ICOCA card on arrival at the JR station then. I'm not making day trip to Osaka from Kyoto because my flight home is at Kansai airport anyway, and by staying a couple of nights in Osaka as my last stop will save me the time and transfer to get to the airport on the last day.

Have a good weekend everyone : )

p.s. It's 40 degrees celcius in Sydney, Australia today : (

Depending where you stay, it might save 30 minutes.
