Plan....Fukuoka-Kurokawa 3 nights, Yuijin 2 nights, Fukuoka....

That's the only option

It is one of my favorite regions in Japan! 3 nights in Kurokawa sounds very long to myself, especially if you don't have a car to explore the surrounding area. By public transportation it is quite difficult to get around, although not impossible. Have a great trip!

IMO kurokawa only for one night and its kinda similar to Yufuin , so you might to change to another place to visit

You can buy SunQ bus pass northern kyushu 3 Day =9000 yen,valid kurokawa to yufuin

First visit to Kyushu, love quaint, peaceful, rural "village" areas, nature, slow travel

Plan-Fukuoka 2 nights,
Kurokawa (Houzantei, could only get 1 night), normally don't like 1 night stays, so booked another kurokawa ryokan for 2 nights

Yufuin-2 nights

Open to any and all suggestions before 4 nights in Fukuoka, day trip to Karatsu is only plan

Very flexible, except for Houzantei, and I wish we could get a second night.....

Saving south Kyushu for future trip

Hozentai is probably the best ryokan I've stayed at (dont eat much at lunch as dinner is huge and fantastic, you really need a big appetite for it). I think one night is possibly enough as it is a little ways out of town.

Uji-I am open to renting a car.....I honestly am not going for the onsens, but enjoy the onsen village atmosphere, and journey to reach the areas. And less touristy the better

Depends on what you wanna see and do. On the smaller rural town vibe that has offerings for tourists.

If you had a car, you could more easily explore the surrounding attractions, such as Mount Aso, Mount Kuju, the Kuju Flower Park and more. They are nicely presented in the following video:

Kurokawa Onsen is a district of walking distance. We've only had drive in the region. It's not a difficult drive from spring to autumn.

If a car is an option, then it should have been the first option. Then are so many sights within inner Kyushu that are so difficult to get to, even with public transport.

Some of the best food ever, and a fantastic setting. Visiting again in a few weeks.
Looking at their website, they are emphasising minimal contact and seem to be managing expectations downward on the food aspect, but I’m hoping that they just haven’t refreshed their website since COVID was more in evidence…
