Day trip from Kanazawa to Takayama?

We are visiting Kanazawa in early March and we would like to go to Takayana, but we have only one day available. What is the best public transportation to Takayama from Kanazawa? Is it feasible back and forth in one day?

Possible yes, but I would spend the additional day in Kanazawa. There is so much to explore and I personally didn�ft find Takayama very interesting.

If you take 8:10 bus from Kanazawa, you will arrive Shirakawago at 9:25. Then take 12:25 bus to Takayama which arrives at 13:25. The last bus from Takayama departs at 17:30. You will have 3 hours in Shirakawago and 4 hours in Takayama which I think is sufficient time in each place. Note that you need to make reservation for each bus rides.
