Driving from Nagoya to Gero Onsen/ Takayama

hi,
I will be visiting Nagoya and would like to do a drive from Nagoya to Gero Onsen / Takayama end of March 2024.

This is my 1st time driving in Japan and hence would like to know if it is an easy drive from Nagoya to Gero Onsen and therafter to Takayama. Is the road condition safe for 1st time drivers and do let me know if tolls are required too.

It is not a difficult drive. By far the most stressful part will be getting out of central Nagoya. There are no toll roads along most of the route.

My plan is to rent a car on 23 March ( Sat) from Nagoya ...not sure it will be less stressful to drive out of the city, since it is a weekend. My other concern is the weather as I am not sure if the road would be clear of snow by then. I have not driven in snow covered roads before.

It is unlikely but not impossible to snow in late March.
