Sunrise train from Kinosaki 2024/3/15 01:17
Hello all,

I will be traveling in the west part of Japan for my first month of my trip in Late April / May.
For the last leg of my trip I will be in Kinosaki Onsen for a night. I am wondering if it is possible to take the Sunrise overnight train to go to Tokyo.
If i have to take a train to a stop, I don't mind, because I would like the experience.

The Sunrise night train does not pass anywhere close to Kinosaki. You could catch it from Osaka, which is a 3 hour train ride from Kinosaki.

@Uji - why wouldn't they be able to join the train at Okayama where it splits/joins the two pieces?

Opps - too early in the morning - I mis-read the OP as Kurashiki. Ignore my previous post.

On the condition
that you successfully reserve your berth compartment or seat,
you can board Sunrise Seto - Izumo
at Himeji, Sannomiya (in Kobe), or Ōsaka.

Kinosaki is close to the northern coast of Hyōgo Prefecture.

Tōkyo bound Sunrise Seto - Izumo,
after the coupling at Okayama,
runs along the southern coast of Hyōgo Prefecture,
making stops at Himeji and Sannomiya.

Catching the earliest Hamakaze train,
you can get to Himeji in the morning,
visit Himeji Castle and nearby Kōko-en Garden,
head to Sannomiya in the afternoon,
explore Kobe (and have a night view if weather is fine),
go back to Sannomiya,
and board Sunrise Seto - Izumo just after the midnight.

I will be traveling in the west part of Japan for my first month of my trip in Late April / May.

During the Golden Week,
it may be difficult to reserve a berth compartment or Nobi-nobi seat,
especially the latter.

Re: Reservation for Sunrise Seto / Izumo 2024/3/15 16:22
Reservation for Sunrise Seto / Izumo can be made
from 10 a.m. (Japan Standard Time, UTC + 9h) of the day
one month before the day the train starts from Takamatsu / Izumoshi.

Make sure which day is your boarding day.

JR-West Online Train Reservation covers the entire route,
including JR-Central and JR-East sections.

Good luck!
