We have 3 days before joining a tour group in Tokyo. I was looking for an area of Tokyo that will be easy to get to when we land as we will be tired yet has interesting things to do in the area. We will probably just want to chill to recover from the jet lag, We will no doubt visit the major sites with the tour group.

Which airport do you arrive?
Hamamatsucho might be a good place if you come from Haneda and Ueno/Yanaka if from Narita.
Regarding what to do in those 3 days wefd need to know what will be covered by the tour and more importantly what are your interests.

Katherine,
I'm interested also in what the season (month) would be, which hotel your group would be staying at, and whether or not you prefer to stay at the same hotel/area during the first 3 days.

Ginza is a fun place to stay for a few days at the beginning of a trip. It has gotten more gdown to earthh in the last ten years or so, with a large number of newish hotels that arenft particularly expensive (for Tokyo) and is easy to get to from either Haneda or Narita (much faster from Haneda, of course). Great atmosphere, endless supply of restaurants at all budget levels, walking distance to Tokyo Station, and with a lot of good transit options (subway lines, JR, yurikamome within walking distance) if youfre feeliing adventurous and want to try using transit (be sure to get an IC card in that case).

So with the tour youfll only see Meiji Jingu, Tsukiji and the imperial palace garden?
There are MANY more interesting things to do in & around Tokyo. You can have a look on JG webpage for places recommended in / around Tokyo. And frankly I wouldnft pay a tour guide only for Meiji Jingu , Tsukiji and Imperial Palace. Thatfs an odd itinerary and totally doable by yourself and public transport.
Where is your hotel? Maybe someone can recommend places within walking distance if you are afraid of getting to know public transport in Tokyo on your own.
