Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route

On the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route, if I plan to stay overnight in Murodo, would it be better to start from the Ogizawa side, or from the Toyama side? Any recommendations please? Thank you!

It depends on the context of your itinerary! Where you are coming from and where you are heading afterwards. And the timing of the arrival and departure.

I will be coming from Tokyo, and returning to Tokyo after visiting the route. Thank you!

I recommend to do the a one way trip along the entire route as opposed to a round trip from either end. Either direction is easily possible from Tokyo. I personally would probably prefer to travel from Ogizawa to Toyama because it is a more dramatic start. But the opposite direction can also be pleasant.
