These are just the average. As for snow, in the average year, this is just about the time when the snow disappears.

We were in Takayama & Shirakawa-go on 20th & 21st April. It is very sunny and we wore short sleeve T-shirt for the day. No more snow around. A light jacket is required for evening & night time.

I went to Ogimachi in first week of April and there was a ton of snow.. more than 6 feet in some places? But the snow was melting, so it must be above 0C. still it was very cold..

Hi Uji, where can you look up the temperatures and snow depths for Shirakawa-go? I'm just wondering about the weather there in early December.

Shirakawa-go weather

Hey hey we were at Shiragawa-go 1st wk of April 08 and it started snowing! Totally unprepared.
And so we visited Takayama right before Shirakawa-go and seriously it was way colder in Takayama, because it is always freezing just before the snow. So you shd bring clothes that are warm enough.
As for snow boots, we stayed at Koemon in Shirakawa-go (fantastic fd & experience) the owners have quite a no. of them in various sizes and they loan it to us for free (as we only used it for couple of hours to trot up to the Viewpoint before heading back to Takayama). Very kind of them indeed.
