Finding a low cost, well located hotel in Akita City via the Internet is proving to be a major challenge. Would very much appreciate any suggestions on hotels/ryokans etc. near central train station with cost not higher than Yen10,000 per night for 2 adults. Target time is late August. Will need to find a place that can take booking via Internet or e-mail.

. . . many hotels in Akita, including three right near the train station. Here is a hotel reservation site that seems to actually work: http://www.japanhotel.net/data/pref/Hotel_list.asp?area=AKITAOnly thing is you put in for a reservation but it doesn't tell you if any rooms are available. You wait for a reply. On the other hand, most web reservation sites for Japan show no vacancy no matter what day of the year, so at least it is an improvement. The area list is impressive indeed, and I am familiar with several hotels I've seen listed.
