from what I can tell, the best deal is to buy the 1- or 2-day passes at the airport... can you buy multiples and use them throughout a trip?

I find the "Suica & NEX" package the better deal. The 1- and 2-day passes are only valid on Tokyo Metro lines. It is not valid on the four Toei subway lines and the JR lines.
