I've started emailing a girl from japan and her name is Nao, short for Nonaka... I've been pronouncing it "Nay-Oh" or could it be "Nah-Oh?"
Thanks

It's Nah-oh.
Na is always pronounced as "Nah" and o is always pronuounced as "Oh"... that's one nice thing about the japanese language.

Thank You for the right pronunciation! It would have been rightly awkward if we started speaking on the phone and I mis-pronounced her name!
Thanks again.

"Her name is Nao, short for Nonaka"? Usually Nonaka is a family name and Nao is a given name- or is Nao a nickname she has given herself based on the sounds in her family name?
