I have a question about new year cards. Can I send my penpals a New Year's card from my local card store, or does it have to be a traditional New Year's card from Japan? I was thinking of sending my penpals one during the Christmas holidays this year.

I don't think you have to send a traditional New Year's card. You penpal would be very pleased with having "Seasonal Greeting" sent from your home country :)

Thanks for your input. I personally think that sending New Year's cards during the holiday season is a good idea. As long as we stay penpals, I'm hoping to share a little bit about my culture with them. One of them is not familiar with western music or food, so I have to explain them to her.
