Is it all that difficult?

Are the entrance exams for High School very difficult? As in will many people fail them? Is there a percentage of how many people get in to high school? Do people who fail to get in to High School face a bleak future?

According to the Ministry of Education, as of 2004, 97.5% of junior high school students went up to high schools, including night-time high schools and correspondence schools. (94.4% for full time high schools)
Since it is not easy to enter high-ranking schools, many students apply for more than 1 schools.
