I'm going to be studying abroad in Japan for a year, doing a homestay, and I was wondering if I needed to get electrical converters for my electronics. I'm bringing things like laptop, hair dryer, digital camera charger (made for North America)... they are all three-prong plugs. I've heard both that you do need them and that you don't,so I was trying to clear up some confusion.

In your case you just need a 3prong to 2 prong adapter. No electrical conversion is needed.

except for your hair dryer that may or may not work in Japan. Typically a US model will not put out the same kind of heat that it does at home unless it is either a travel model or you are using it with a converter.
If you dry you hair often by hairdryer then consider either picking one up in Japan or buying one from a travel store.
