In costs the 7 day JR Pass is about the same as Osaka - Tokyo - Osaka.

it all depends how you plan your trip!. if you stay so many days in Tokyo at the start and so many days at the end of your vacation and spend 7 days in the Kansai (including the trip Tokyo to Osaka and the return trip to Tokyo) in the middle of the vacation, then a 7 days pass is worth it. A 14 days is only good if you do a lot of traveling by train in 14 days, for example going all the way to Fukuoka. otherwise because the price of a 7 days pass = the trip Tokyo-Osaka-Tokyo, buying tickets give you more flexibililty. also, if you are when in Kansai for 7 days you can use the pass to visit Kyoto, Nara and other places. A LONG WINDED WAY TO SAY: PLAN YOUR ITINERARY FIRST then you will see
