Mt Fuji 5th Station 2007/10/2 12:00
Thanks.

I had read through it.

However, due to Dec is off season, therefore I afraid there is no bus service from Tokyo to Mt Fuji 5th Station.

My itenary is from Tokyo/Shinjuku to Mt Fuji 5th Station and then from Mt Fuji 5th Station to Kawaguchiko then back to Tokyo.

My question is "Got any bus available during weekend dec?

Thanks

I do not know for sure.. but I would bet against it. All of the buses going to Fuji-san are for climbers, basically, and off-season I've seen only some private cars there.

What would you want to do there anyway? 5th station is pretty boring, you're better off seeing Fuji-san from one of the neighboring shorter peaks (which are low enough to hike to even in December if you feel like it).

Recommendation:

mittsumine-touge (which has ~1800m elevation, and there's ropeway to ~1km? if I remember correctly if you don't want to do real hiking) - it is next to the Fuji five lakes area in Hakone.

Qn of snow in Dec ard Tokyo 2007/10/8 12:08
Hi,
Read the updates that there are no buses to 5th Station in Dec.

1) Is there other means to visit 5th Station ?
2) Is planning the visit in Dec with kids and hope there is a plc to visit from tokyo as a day trip to experience snow. Is there any good suggestion??

3) Can we experience snow in Hakone?

Thanks very much

Is there other means to visit 5th Station ?

By guided bus tour:

Rental car:

Or taxi:

Depending on snow conditions, it might not be possible to go all way up to the 5th Station.

Karuizawa seems to have a ski resort that is open in December. They produce their own snow if there is no naturally produced snow:

Can we experience snow in Hakone?

It is unlikely but not impossible to have snow in Hakone in December.

No. I think it will be resumed in April.

Else will the trip to kawaguchiko be worth while.

Yes.

Is it possible to experience snow on Mt. Fuji 5th station in December, ie : 9-21 Dec ?

Yes, there will be probably snow around the 5th Station. Sometimes there is actually too much snow, in which case the road could gets closed temporarily and traffic can only go as far as the 1st Station or so.

5th station 2008/9/16 03:46
No you can't see colourful autumn leaves on trees by th 5th station. All the photos I have seen of the 5th station (It is easy to Google it) show evergreen trees--as in many mountains around the world--these trees, as the name say, never change colour (they have needles as leaves)

Walkerplus lists the 5th Station as a autumn color spot, and mentions early October as the best time to see the colors in the average year:
