Train travel to Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo 2007/10/2 00:18
Travel to these areas Nov 07 for 4 weeks, for birth of friend's baby. Have been to Japan 12 yrs. ago. Will arr. in Osaka, stay in Kyoto for a few days, travel to Tokyo for a week or so and then back to Kyoto, maybe another trip to Osaka, and then back to airport. Was considering Rail Pass, but on reading more - I see there are passes which can be purchased for 5 days and wonder if that would be better for me. I would do most of my travel during the time in the Tokyo area, but the pressure is on!! to make the best use of. Also, many of the local trains are not JR. Open to your suggestions!!

You might consider a 7 day JR pass for your trip from Kyoto to Tokyo and back assuming that trip is 7 days.

I do not know how much traveling you plan to do while you are back in Kyoto or Osaka for those 4 weeks so It would be hard to make a judgement on exactly what pass (if any) you need for those portions.
