I am traveling to Japan with my two children. I need a one week JR pass for my third week in Japan. (I don't need a pass for the first two weeks. Is this possible? How do I go about doing this?

Yes this is possible. When you buy a rail pass you get a voucher that must be redeemed in Japan for the actual rail pass. The voucher can be redeemed anytime, or returned if not used.

So, I buy my railpass before I leave the US and have it validated when I land or when I'm ready to use it?
