Can anyone recommend a nice small hotel in Tokyo that has a good sized room in a good location ( near subway/train station) ? We have the budget about $100-130/night. Don't like a very big hotel that has so many tall buildings. Thanks.

Hi Je I use New City Hotel Shinjuku when arriving in Tokyo. It is about 12-15 minutes walk to hotel but they have free shuttle bus every 15-20 minutes. There is park across road I enjoy walking in the early morning. Also please try JNTO site. Kiwi

I really like Tokyu Stay due to the ammenities like the washer/dryer, microwave oven, decent sized refrigerator, and mini-kitchenette; especially the Gotanda location because it is really close to Gotanda Station (says 1 minute on their site but in reality, takes around 2-3 minutes or longer if you catch the light to cross the road near the station; either JR Yamanote or Toei Asakusa subway line), has plenty of eating places in the area like Watami, MOS Burger, Ootoya, Jonathans (which also offers 4 types of free complimentary breakfast to Tokyu Stay patrons), Tenya, Bannai Ramen, etc. The single type B is slightly larger than your standard business single but the single type C is fairly large as are the double and twin rooms. http://www.tokyustay.co.jp/e/hotel/GO/index.html

We recommand the New Izu Hotel in Ueno, about 5 minutes on foot from Ueno JR and Shinkansen station. A small, family run hotel, right within your budget. They speek English and have a website.
