Travel during Seijin no hi Holiday 2007/12/4 09:06
I will be in Japan next month and noticed that the Jan 14, 2008 is a holiday. Will travel by train during the holiday weekend be difficult?
I want to travel from Tokyo to Kyushu.

No. There might be increased traffic out of Tokyo on Saturday morning and in the opposite direction on Monday afternoon, but many trains should have reserved seats available, especially if you book one or two days in advance.

The majority of trains between Tokyo and Hakata still have smoking cars. But a steadily increasing number of trains between Tokyo and Hakata (nozomi only) have limited smoking to some small smoking compartments, while all seating areas are non-smoking.
