My family will be in Tokyo 12/22-12/24/07, and would like to see sumo practice and/or training. I know it's off season to view a match.

Hi, you can visit one of the sumo houses in Tokyo to see sumo wrestlers practising sumo early in the morning. But you need to call them in advance for visiting. I do not think they speak English though.
The name of the sumo-beya or sumo house : Musashigawa-beya
located 10min.walk from JR Uguisudani station in Tokyo.
