Travel in Tokyo for a two week holiday? 2008/1/13 08:38
Hello,

My friend and I are planning a holiday in Tokyo in mid Sept for two weeks. We're staying in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Metropiltan and I am aware we are near the Ikebukuro station, will this be the best idea for transportation around all areas of Tokyo?

If so:
- Shall we purchase passes before we go (we're in the U.K.) or when we get there?
- Prices, cheapest?
- Timetables?

Possible info of all kinds would be very useful.

Thanks :)

Are you asking whether Ikebukuro is a convenient location? If so, yes, it is.

If you plan on making major side trips from Tokyo, it might be worth considering the purchase of a Japan Rail Pass or JR East Pass:

For city transportation, I recommend a prepaid card:

muggy Tokyo 2008/1/13 16:32
It might be nice to take overnight trips to cooler areas at that time of the year, for example Nikko and Nagano. Tokyo can still be swelteringly hot and humid up till the end of September- up to 35 deg C and 90 percent humidity- and you might find yourself wanting a break from it.

The beaches near Tokyo are not really worth the trip, it would be nicer to head up into the mountains.
