I have a plan to travel from Nagoya to Takayama with JR Pass which is the best route?
Are there any JR bus from Nagoya to Takayama? as well as from Takayama, I have a plan to visit Shirakawago, can be only buy bus, right?

Yes, u r right that shirakawa-go is accessible by bus only. U may get the ticket at the Nouhi bus ticket counter next to JR Takayama station.
Alternatively, you may email Nouhi bus to make reservation.

If you just intend to make a return trip between Nagoya and Takayama, a JR pass wouldn't make sense at all. Making some other longish trips besides the Takayama trip justifies the pass.

Between Nogoya and Takayama, take the JR limited Express 'Hida'. In case you travel by 14th of March, search the connection through the following site.

There is a schedule revision on JR Lines on 15th March.

The Hida will run 10 times daily each way, takes 2 hours 20 minutes in average and cost 5,870 yen each way. New schedules.

Departures from Nagoya: 7:43, 8:43, 9:43, 10:48, 11:48, 12:48, 14:48, 15:48, 17:48 and 19:43

From Takayama: 6:50, 8:07, 9:37, 11:35, 12:43, 13:38, 14:40, 15:36, 16:43, 18:42

The bus between Nagoya and Takayama runs 9 times a day each way, takes 2 hour 40 minutes and costs 2,900 yen for one way, and 5,000 yen for return.

As for the bus between Takayama and Shirakawago, refer to the timetable below.

There are three JR bus operations on that segment each way daily, but I don't believe a JR pass is applicable for them.

I also plan to travel by Nouhi bus from Nagoya to Takayama, Takayama to Shirakawago & Shirakawa-go to Kanazawa in April 08. Got a group of about 10 friends, so would like to reserve seats by email. Would appreciate if anyone who know the email address, pls let me know.

actually I do not have the answer, but I, too, have been hunting for an English email address to reach Nouhi Bus Co. to reserve seats from Takayama-Shirakawa-go-Takayama.
