You can get by JR as far as either Toyama Station or SHinano-Omachi Station, as explained here:

Tokyo - Shinano-Omachi - Alpine Route with overnight stay around Murodo - Toyama - (via Nagaoka) - Tokyo or the other way around

How much would it cost me?

Non-JR transportation along the alpine route costs about 10,000 yen per person one way.

Is it worth to buy JR East Rail pass? for that case?

No.

Is day trip possible?

Yes.

Is it possible to take the bus 2008/3/2 13:50
Is it possible to take the bus from Tokyo to Shinano-Omachi? and from Toyama to Tokyo?

Since I do not plan to buy JR rail pass? so I would like to know is there any cheaper way to get to those place instead of taking train?

Please kindly suggest

By the way, the train cost between Tokyo to Shinano-Omachi is around 7500 YEN, and from Toyama to Tokyo costs 11,500 YEN. So is it worth to buy JR East rail pass 4 day* that cost 20000 YEN?

You comment will be very much appreciated.

There are cheaper modes of transport, bus services.

1) Shinjuku to Shinano-Omachi
4,100 yen one way, duration 4 hours.

2) Toyama to Ikebukuro
7,340 yen each way, duration 6.5 hours.

Toyama Station -- Ikebukuro Station
6:00hrs - 12:25
10:30 - 16:55
15:30 - 21:55
22:50 - 5:15(+1)

If you're happy with traveling by bus, buying the train pass will make no sense.

more questions 2008/3/2 16:07
I have more questions to ask..

As checked with buy time table from the way.

I plan to leave Tokyo Shinjuku at 8 Am then arrive at Shinnano Omashi arond noon..

Then I will travel through the Alpe Route from 13.00 Pm ...Which I am not sure how long it will take me to get to Toyama St. Then I try to get the night bus from Toyama back and arrive Tokyo the next morning? (+ 1 day)

Is that possible or Ok to go with that plan?

Do you think haft day for Alpe route would be enough (with no rush)?

Any comment is welcome
Thank you

If you want to pass the route in a single day from Tokyo, you should leave Tokyo earlier in the morning!

Train timetables:
http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/

Timetables for transportation along the Alpine Route:
http://www.alpen-route.com/english/acs-time.html

On weekends and during busy travel seasons, you have to consider possible waiting times along the way.
