to turn on a switch 2008/3/3 09:12
I have a quiz tomorrow, and there is something that confuses me...

スイッチを入れる
is said in my textbook to mean to turn on a switch...

How do you pronounce the 入れる? What is it in hiragana? Is it はいる? I thought that kanji meant to enter. So is this a potential form? I did not know it had any other meanings, or perhaps to enter a switch is meaningful?

I am very confused... I really need to know how to write this in hiragana, and maybe a little explanation would be nice.

That's correct.

How do you pronounce the 入れる? What is it in hiragana?

It's いれる (ireru), meaning "to insert".
