I will be visiting central Hokkaido from 26th to 31st of May 2008. Will I still be able to see cherry blossom? What other flowers can I see during this period?

Unfortunately it is too late for cherry blossoms (except maybe in the Kushiro/Nemuro area if it is a slow year) and except for a small, bush like cherry variety, which is still in bloom in higher elevations into June, but most people do not even recognize the bush as a cherry tree. I will be visiting Hokkaido in Mid Aug 2008. Will I still be able to see lavender & sunflower during that period?
Is there a summer festival during that period?

Mid August is Obon week, i'm sure there will be plenty of festivals and things to do in Hokkaido at that time. It's a great time of the year to be here.
