kyushu trip choice 2008/3/7 00:59
hello, i have a queston whether which way is better and cheaper.

now, i'm staying in Beppu. my family will come here to visit me for 5 days, so i'm planing to take them a tour around here.

there are choices.
1. Fukuoka-Beppu*-Yufuin-Beppu*-Aso-Kurokawa*-Kumamoto*-Dazaifu-Fukuoka*
or 2. Fukuoka-Beppu*-Yufuin-Kurogawa*-Aso-Kumamoto*-Dazaifu-Fukuoka*
* = stay for a night and depart in the next morning.

which one do you think is better and cheaper? (now, i'm also choosing between taking bus or using JR nothernkyushu pass)

thank you

I recommend choice number 2 to reduce travel distance/time, but you will have to come up with a good luggage plan because you will be changing hotels almost daily. And I recommend to take the bus, which connects Beppu with Yufuin, Kurokawa, Aso and Kumamoto. Train between Kumamoto, Dazaifu and Fukuoka (transfer from JR to Nishitetsu Railways at Omuta Station). Between Fukuoka and Beppu, you can take train or bus.

Unfortunately they don't have an English website. Here is the Japanese one:

how about the bus ticket?

Seat reservations are required on this bus.

where can i buy it?

You (or your kind hotel concierge) can make seat reservations by phone:
096-354-4845

Or online (in Japanese):
http://www.rakubus.jp/english/rosen/kmt_bep_yfn.html

Or through a travel agency.

and it use only one ticket? even i will get off and on in each city?

No, you will have buy separate ticket for every separate section traveled.
