nozomi vs hikari and ticket upgrade?

Hi,I booked a ticket for the shinkansen from Kyoto to Tokyo for the hikari because I was told it was cheaper, but then found out it is only about 300 yen cheaper? Is it ever possible to upgrade a hikari ticket to nozomi?

It depends on the ticket you bought. If you bought a normal ticket (not JR pass), you can upgrade it into Nozomi at any JR station.

If you are using a Japan Railpass, that's impossible. You'd be fully charged for the ride, 13,520 yen each way.
Just in case you mean so.
