Visiting Mount Fuji area 2008/3/19 15:31
We are planning to visit japan during the first week of April and will be staying in Narita. What is the most cost effective way to travel to Mount Fuji area. We do not have any intentions of climbing but would like to see the surrounding area.

If your hotel runs a complimentary shuttle to Narita Airport, take it there and at the JR Airport Station, buy a 'Suica and NEX' package for 3,500 yen. You'll get a Narita Express ride to Shinjuku (1,500 yen worth in the package) in your case, a suica card (500 yen refundable deposit) and 1,500 yen credit.

Take the Narita Express to Shinjuku. It runs every 30 to 60 minutes and takes 80 minutes to Shinjuku.

From Shinjuku, take the Chuo Highway Bus to Kawaguchiko. It runs every 30 minutes until 1 pm then every 1 hour, costs 1,700 yen each way and takes 1 hour 45 minutes.

If you are lucky, you can enjoy such a beautiful view of Mt Fuji as below.

The Shinjuku bound bus leaves Kawaguchiko every 30 minutes from 1 pm. Before one o'clock, it runs every one hour.

From Shinjuku, take the Yamanote Line to Nippori, and change to the Keisei limited express to Narita Airport. The Yamanote Line train runs every couple of minutes, takes 20 minutes to Nippori and costs 190 yen (pay with the suica credit.), and the Keisei limited express runs every 20 minutes, costs 1,000 yen (suica) and takes 70 minutes.

At this moment, 310 yen worth credit remains on the suica. Buy drinks and snacks at the designated shops on the way, and get a 500 yen refund of the suica card at Narita.
