Return Rail Fare Shizouka City to Kyoto 2008/3/19 22:00
Anyone know please? My daughter and I are travelling Narita to Tokyo, Tokyo to Shizouka City, Shizouka to Kyoto, back to Shiouka, and finally back to Tokyo. We will be in Tokyo for a day, so using transport. I'm wondering whether a Japan Rail Pass would be a good idea. May be travelling a little in Shizouka Prefecture, but will be with my son and girlfriend, so not too sure. I know the rail fare for Tokyo-Shiz, but not the other long journey. Would be tarvelling Shinkensen

My daughter and I are travelling Narita to Tokyo, Tokyo to Shizouka City, Shizouka to Kyoto, back to Shiouka, and finally back to Tokyo. We will be in Tokyo for a day, so using transport.

The normal prices for Shinkansen and Narita Express.

Between Narita Airport and Tokyo: 2,940 yen (one way)
Between Tokyo and Shizuoka: 6,180 yen (one way)
Between Shizuoka and Kyoto: 9,950 yen (one way)

If your trip completes within 7 days, the seven-day Japan Railpass will work perfectly.

In case your travel duration is more than 8 days, buy individual tickets from Narita Airport to Tokyo and for transport in Tokyo. Start to use the pass when you leave Tokyo for Shizuoka.

As for Narita Airport to central Tokyo, the 'Suica and NEX' package is a great deal for 3,500 yen.

The 1,500 yen suica credit can be used for any mode of transport in Tokyo and surrounding areas.

another update to my original question 2008/3/20 21:43
I now have more details about my itinery. When we depart Tokyo for Shizouka, it will be another 6days before we leave again for Kyoto, by the time we leave Kyoto an 8 day pass will have expired.
One last question, would the prices you mentioned for the train journeys include using the shinkansen, or are they more expensive? Thanks

In that case, you might want to buy point-to-point tickets.

The prices I quoted for travels from Tokyo to Shizuoka, and Shizuoka to Kyoto are all on the Shinkansen.
The Narita Express train is limited express, a slower train than the Shinkansen.
