tokyo-Kyoto JR Hikari-need reservation?

Is it usually necesary to reserve seats on the Tokyo to kyoto hikari trains if leaving at 9+am on a Tue in mid May? Are the trains usually crowded?
I'll be going straight from the airport to a disneyland hotel. Understand that the nearest JR station there is maihama. Can my tokyo-kyoto train tickets be reserved from there? I'll be using a JR railpass.

You will need to exchange your JR voucher for your JR Rail Pass when you arrive (I assume) at Narita Airport. You can make your reservation at that time.
