14 days trip-Tohuku and Hokkaido

I and my husband plan to go to Tohoku and Hokkaido for backpacking trip for 14 days.

a) Is mid August is the nice season to travel in Tohoku and Hokkaido?

b) Should I buy 7 days JR East pass+ 7 Hokkaido free pass or should i buy 14 days JR pass.

c) I will spend 1 days in Tokyo, 6 days in Tohuku and 7days in Hokkaido.What are the nice scenary places I can cover in Tohuku and Hokkaido?

d) It is easy to get to the National pak in Hokkaido?

e) There are quite a number of open Open air Hot Spring, which one is the best scenary and how much per entry?
