Spending a night in a Buddisht Temple

My boyfriend and I are traveling to Japan for the first time and I would like to spend the night in a Buddhist Temple. We will stay 4 days in Kyoto and 4 days in Tokyo. Does anyone have a suggestion for an authentic stay around Kyoto or Tokyo? I don't want it to be too touristy. But at the same time, we don't to spend the entire day in the temple because we went to sightsee.
Lastly, how do I contact the temple to make a reservation?
