Is the 9800 Yen ticket from Shinagawa to Kyoto is a reserved seat. Do the train have enough space to accomodate medium size luggage (28x18x10 inch). Do they have sale office in Ikebukuro, where we can purchase the ticket. If no, it is difficult to locate the JR Tokai tours in Shinagawa station. Are we able to get a morning ticket (depart around 8.00am)if we purchase 3 to 4 days in advance. Thanks for the advise!!

Yes. Medium size luggage fits onto the overhead shelves or in the foot space in front of you. Also, kodama trains seldomly get booked out, so there is a chance that a seat besides you remains empty.

The Purutto Kodama Plan can be bought at JR Tokai travel offices and JTB travel agents. There is no JR Tokai travel office at Ikebukuro Station, but there are some at Tokyo and Shinagawa Stations. The ticket has to be purchased at leastone day before usage.

I am pretty sure that this should be no problem, except maybe if you travel on May 3.

Puratto Kodama Economy Plan 2008/4/29 23:01
Thanks Uji for the valuable information.

I saw a Japanese site for Shinjuku PKEP office : http://www.jrtours.co.jp/shop/page/JRTBranch.aspx?bc=D922
Not sure can we purchase the PKEP ticket at this Shinjulu location. I do not understand Japanese.
We are staying in Ikebukuro area, if we take JR Yamonote train around 7.00am from Ikebukuro to Shinagawa are we able to catch the 8.04am Shinkansen train to Kyoto. Will the train be crowded at this time. We have middle size luggage. We worry we (with luggage) might not be able to get out of the train when we reach Shinagawa station. Otherwise we will plan to leave Ikebukuro earlier. Thanks

Yes, you can purchase the Puratto Kodama Plan there.

Yes. It takes less than 30 minutes to travel from Ikebukuro to Shinagawa.

Will the train be crowded at this time.

Yes, on weekdays, it is quite crowded, but it gets even worse after 8am. Because Shinagawa is a major station, lots of people will leave the train, and you should be able to join the outward stream.

Shinagawa station 2008/5/1 02:11
Uji, thanks again for the information.
After reaching Shinagawa station, it is difficult to locate the Shinkansen platrom to Kyoto. We worry we may lost our way and might miss the train. Is 30 mins enough to locate the Shinkansen platfrom?
With Puratto Kodama Economy Plan, do we need to transfer or exit to go to Shinkansen platform. Thanks
