Does it snow at Tsumago 2008/5/7 11:13
Hello, we are travelling to Japan in December/January and really want to see snow but not ski. We have been to Takayama but would like to see another part of Japan, as long as it snows. Many thanks for your advice.

It does snow, but not much. There is no guarantee that there will be snow in December especially, but also in January.

Walked Tsumago to Magome on the 2nd of Feb this year. Plenty of snow on the ground near the top of the walk.
Considered Zao and the snow monsters ? Did that on the 16th Feb. too much snow on the ground, it was fffffffreezing but beautiful.

Have you looked into Shirakawa-go? It is a facinating world heritage listed village in the mountains that gets a heap of snow. Try these websites-

By the way, the villages of Tsumago and Magome are also well worth the visit with or without snow...like stepping back in time.
