ATM, 5 digits code

Hi,
I heard that ATM machines in postal office do not accept 5 digits PIN numbers on debit & credit card?
Is that true?
What if my bank can't change my 5 digits PIN card to a 4 digits card?
Thank you

I previously thought so, but the other day my friend was able to enter a 6 digit PIN at a postal ATM and successfully withdrew cash. While it seems possible on postal ATMs, the software of other ATMs might (but probably will not) restrict you to 4-digit PINs.

For Japanese-issued cards (and ATMs that only accept Japanese-issued cards): 4-digit PIN.
For cards issued outside Japan (at ATMs that accept overseas-issued cards):
Post Office ATMs: 4-6 digits.
Other ATMs (Citibank, etc): 4-12 digits.
