I would like to travel with lot of luggage(5pieces) from Sapporo to Gifu. Is there a chance to rent a car for such a trip?Or is there some actual bus connection? Or other options?Plane is not convenient, because of uncertain travel itinerary.Thank you for answer.

Hokkaido and Honshu are only connected by a train tunnel and car ferries and the trip by car would take more than a day. You should travel by plane, for sure, and send some of your bags by delivery service: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2278.htmlThere are lots of flights between Sapporo and Nagoya, the closest airport to Gifu. If you book one day in advance, you can usually get tickets for around 30,000 yen. Around 38,000 yen for same day tickets.

You might consider buying the airpass.
