Kisei Main Line and Wakayama Line

We would like to do some sightseeings by train in Wakayama prefecture this October. One of them will be Kisei main line from Wakayama to Kameyama. This is quite a long ride going round nearly the entire prefecture of Wakayama, Nara and Mie. The ride on Wakayama line from Wakayama to Oji is much shorter though.
We appreciate any comments and inputs.

...Koyasan in that region. It really is one of the highlights of Japan to explore this town high up in hills and stay at a monastery . Train access from Kyoto was easy enough.

No train goes through to Wakayama from Oji. You must change a train at least one time at Gojo. And most trains are not rapid but local. Of course, there is no express train. JR doesnft expect a passenger who goes to Wakayama by Wakayama Line.

Yes, you are quite right. We need to make a transfer at either Takada or Gojo station, hopefully, without changing train. Likewise, there is no direct train from Kameyama to Wakayama Again we need to stop at Shingu station for a transfer. We much prefer the slow local train because it is less crowed and more to enjoy the scenery. Last winter, we traveled in the slow local train from Morioka to Akita instead of the bullet train. We made two transfers at Koma and Odate by way of Iwate Ginga Rail Line (IGR), Hanawa Line and Ou line. It was a long cold journey but we really enjoyed it!
