Nice beaches in Okinawa Region 2008/7/1 18:05
I was wondering where I could find a nice beach on the Okinawa Islands.
I'll be travelling to japan in september.
I want to spend like three days there, enjoying the sun and the sea. Unfortunately I don't know where to go...
I saw there is an Airport on the Ishigaki island, would that be a good idea?

I just went to Miyako Island the other day, and it was extremely beautiful. Miyako's Maehama Beach and Sunayama Beach are the most beautiful beaches that I have seen in Japan so far.

As for snorkeling, Yoshino Beach was breathtaking.

Miyako has one direct flight to Tokyo per day and numerous flights via Naha.

Tokashiki 2008/7/2 03:12
Tokashiki (in the Keramas) has a great swimming and snorkeling beach at Aharen. (see map at this link: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=tokashiki&sourceid=navclient-f... ) Aharen (ˆ¢”g˜A) is on the west side of the island.

You can also find more info on the village website at: http://www.vill.tokashiki.okinawa.jp/en/index.htm

To get there, fly to Naha and take one of the ferries to Tokashiki port. There are taxis there that will take you over to the other side of the island.

Unfortunately, the Google map link I provided doesn't work (it was truncated). Just Google Tokashiki, Japan and click on the maps tab.

WOW! 2008/7/2 18:17
WOW! Those places are so unbelievably beautiful!
Gotta check which one is easier to get to, regarding my schedule and see if I can find a nice hotel as well.

Hotel Sunflower - Tokashiki 2008/7/2 22:17
There are a couple of hotels listed on the Tokashiki Village website and there is this one, Hotel Sunflower at Aharen.

http://www.hotel-sunflower.com/

It's in Japanese, but if you have the Google Toolbar, you can right-click on the page, click "page info" at the bottom of the pop-up and it will translate the page into English for you. It will be a rough translation, but usually you can get an idea as to what they are trying to convey.

Good luck.

It looks really nice. I've sent an email to the guys from the Marine House Aharen.
Everything looks sooooooo nice there! I think I fell in love with the Island.

We really enjoyed our short stay on the island last year. We plan on a visit in October and will most likely do some snorkeling and diving.

I did forget to mention that some of the locals on the island do speak limited English. Be sure to try the small cafe on the left just before the beach entrance in Aharen. Great food!! And a pour your own Orion beer tap!!
