how to book cheaper domestic flights

Hi there,
me n my frens from Singapore are travelling free n easy to Hokkaido Aug 11th n return Aug 17th. Can't use the airpasses during this period. Tried to book from sky mark but it seemed there is no availability other than the normal fare. Is it really no availability or it's because I need to check only closer to 21 days?

Mid August is the peak of the summer holidays, one of the busiest travel season of the entire year. Most discounts are not available during this time of the year. And the few that are, are most likely booked out already.

If you travel during mid August, I am afraid you will have to pay regular fare or close to it. On some days and routes you can consider yourself lucky to even find vacancies, at all.

You have to prchase ticket within 4days after reservation date.
If you CXL after purchase ticket, 50% charged as cancellation fee.

Can you book an international flight directly into Sapporo Chitose from Changi with a transit en route. I think it will work out cheaper than flying via Tokyo.

Thanks to reply fr Mackey n optimistk. I realised I have clicked on the wrong route on aido, hence confirm there is no discount fare. Cant book intl flight direct to Chitose cos we already book our Intl flight.
Looking at the day train and night train option. Does anyone know how to compute the total cost for the return trip-tokyo to Sapporo and Sapporo to Tokyo? Will 1JR pass cover to and fro?

Next time you might fly into Sapporo on an international flight. This can liberate you from a complicated transit from Narita to Haneda in Tokyo. The limousine bus costs 3,000 yen each way.

All trains between Tokyo and Hokkaido and in whole Hokkaido are covered by the JR pass. still if you take a sleeper berth, you need to pay a surcharge.

1) Overnight train between Tokyo and Sapporo:
Hokutosei: Ueno 19:03 -- 11:15(+1) Sapporo
Sapporo 17:12 -- 9:41(+1) Ueno

In order to take this train, you need to pay a surcharge.
Adult: 12,410 yen (B, or second class two-tier berth)
Child: 9,350 (same as above)

However presumably this train will have been booked out by the time you come to Japan, I'm afraid.
