Need information on how best to travel from Kobe to Kyoto & Osaka. Our ship will be docked for 2 days and we would like to sightsee on our own. Any info & suggestions will be appreciated.

Barbara,
There is a very frequent train service run by JR West between the cities. It takes roughly 30 minutes from Kobe to Osaka, and another 30 minutes on to Kyoto. If money is no problem, you can even catch the shinkansen, but time savings are actually fairly minimal.
