Mt Fuji - guided tour or my own

Will be visiting Japan in November for 10 days.

From Tokyo - better to go to Mt Fuji on a guided day tour or can I do on my own? Will be having a JR pass.

If on my own, would appreciate step by step advice.

If you take JR route is as follows.
Tokyo area-Otsuki(JRline) Otsuki-Kwaguchiko(Fujikyu railway)
Kawaguchiko-5th station of Mt.Fuji(route bus)

You had better join tour because the route bus may not runs in November.(It is up to weather of every year)
