I plan to spend 3 days in Izu. I have already booked 1 nite stay near shimoda. Should I spend another nite in other part of Izu, such as west Izu?

Shuzen-ji is worth a night stay with its temple and onsen. If you want to spend another night in the west coast, try Dogashima for its scenic coastline. More popular onsen destinations are on the east in Atami and Ito with accommodation generally cheaper in Ito.

Locals tend to spend about 2 nights at a beach near Shimoda and then enjoy touring other parts on their way home, either by their own car, taxi or trains and buses. Even in mid-summer, it is quite easy to find vacant coin lockers at Shimoda Station. Changing accomodation after just one night seems kind of busy for a holiday. But it's up to you.
