We have a free day to travel from Kyoto. What's more interesting place sitesee and eat, Kurashiki or Okayama?

Try to do both. By JR Kurashiki is 1.5 hr from Kyoto, start early and do Kurashiki in the morning. In the afternoon 15 min. JR from Kurashiki will bring you to Okayama, visit Okayama Castle and Korakuen. In the evening 1 hr. JR will bring you back to Kyoto from Okayama.

It's been nearly 20 years since I've been to Okayama, but I enjoyed renting a bicycle and exploring the plains where "kofun" ancient graves can be spotted in the middle of nowhere. Both Kurashiki and Okayama was fun (and do-able in a day), but the two are quite different.
